L'Australie va participer pour la première fois au concours Eurovision de la chanson à Vienne.
Pas de demi-finale pour ce pays.

En raison des plus de trente années durant lesquelles le pays diffusa le Concours Eurovision de la chanson, d'une implication importante au Concours Eurovision de la chanson 2014 avec un entracte créé par l'Australie pour la deuxième demi-finale, et afin de célébrer la 60e édition de l'Eurovision avec un événement nouveau, le pays a été invité à concourir en 2015, invitation qui fut acceptée. Il devient alors le 40e pays participant.
Le pays sera automatiquement qualifié en finale, afin de ne pas compromettre les chances de qualification des pays européens, et en raison du fait que ce soit la seule participation autorisée du pays, portant le nombre de finalistes à 27.
Comme tout pays participant, l'Australie aura le droit de vote et pourra recevoir des points. Cependant, contrairement aux autres pays, elle pourra voter durant les deux demi-finales, contrairement aux pays d'Europe, qui ne peuvent voter que lors d'une seule.
En cas de victoire australienne, le Concours Eurovision de la chanson 2016 aura lieu dans une ville européenne mais le diffuseur SBS sera co-hôte et recevra, exceptionnellement, l'autorisation d'envoyer un autre représentant17.
