Participating Countries
Le Concours Eurovision de la chanson est un évènement annuel organisé par l’UER, l’Union européenne de radio-télévision.
Il réunit les membres de l’Union dans le cadre d’une compétition musicale, diffusée en direct et en simultané par tous les pays participants.
Depuis 1956, le concours (appelé plus communément Eurovision) s’est tenu chaque année, sans aucune interruption. Le nombre de pays participants n’a cessé d’augmenter, passant de sept à une quarantaine, au XXIe siècle.
À travers les décennies, le concours a évolué, s'est adapté et réinventé, accompagnant les développements historiques et politiques.
Au total, pas moins de cinquante-et-un pays ont déjà pris part au concours et parmi eux, vingt-six l'ont déjà remporté.
Ces pays, tous membres de l'UER, se répartissent sur trois continents : l'Europe, l'Asie et l'Afrique.
The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual event organized by the EBU, the European Broadcasting Union.
It brings together the members of the Union as part of a musical competition, broadcast live and simultaneously by all participating countries.
Since 1956, the competition (more commonly called Eurovision) held every year without interruption.
The number of participating countries has risen steadily, from seven to forty, the twenty-first century.
Through the decades, the competition has evolved, adapted and reinvented, accompanying historical and political developments.
In total, no less than fifty-one countries have already taken part in the competition among them twenty-six have already won. These countries, all members of the EBU, are spread over three continents: Europe, Asia and Africa.
Albanie - Albania
Albania participates in the Eurovision Song Contest since its forty-ninth edition in 2004 and has never won.

Allemagne - Germany
L'Allemagne est le seul pays à n'avoir raté aucune édition du Concours depuis sa création.
L’Allemagne fait partie des cinq plus importants contributeurs financiers de l'UER, avec l’Espagne, la France, l’Italie et le Royaume-Uni. Ensemble, ils constituent le groupe dit des « Big Five ». Depuis l'édition 1999 du concours, ceux-ci ont la garantie d’une place automatique en finale, indépendamment de leur résultat de l'année précédente.
Germany is the only country not to have missed any edition of the Competition since its inception.
Germany is one of the five largest financial contributors to the EBU, with Spain, France, Italy and the UK. Together they form the group known as the "Big Five". Since the 1999 edition of the competition, they are guaranteed an automatic place in the finals, regardless of their income for the previous year.

Andorre - Andorra
Le pays a donc participé durant six années consécutives.
Les six participations de l'Andorre n'ont jamais débouché sur une qualification. Par conséquent, le pays n'a jamais participé à une finale du concours.
En 2010, Andorre décida de se retirer pour des motifs financiers.
Depuis, le pays ne s'est plus représenté, toujours pour les mêmes motifs.
Andorra has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest, at its forty-ninth edition in 2004 until its fifty-fourth edition in 2009 without winning it.
The country has participated for six consecutive years.
The six Andorra stakes have never led to a qualification. Consequently, the country has never participated in a final contest.
In 2010, Andorra decided to withdraw for financial reasons.
Since then, the country has more represented, again for the same reasons.
Arménie - Armenia
Le pays participe donc depuis 2006 et n’a manqué qu’une seule édition du concours, en 2012.
L’Arménie décida cette année-là de se retirer du concours, qui avait lieu à Bakou, en Azerbaïdjan. La télévision publique arménienne craignit que la sécurité de sa délégation ne puisse pas être assurée par les autorités azerbaïdjanaises. Les tensions entre les deux pays demeuraient toujours fort vives, en raison de leur conflit à propos du Haut-Karabagh.
L’Arménie n’a manqué qu'une fois sa qualification pour la finale du concours, en 2011.
Armenia participates in the Eurovision Song Contest since its fifty-first edition in 2006 and has never won.
The country therefore participates since 2006 and has not missed a single edition of the competition in 2012.
Armenia decided that year to withdraw from the contest, held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Armenian Public Television feared that security of the delegation could not be guaranteed by the Azerbaijani authorities. Tensions between the two countries remained always very bright, due to their conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.
Armenia has once missed qualifying for the final of the competition in 2011.
Australie - Australia
L'Australie à été l'invitée du 60éme Concours Eurovision.
Depuis l'Australie participe tous les ans.
Australia participated for the first time at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015.
Australia was the guest at the 60th Eurovision Song Contest.
Since Australia participates every year.
Autriche - Austria
L’Autriche participe au Concours Eurovision de la chanson, depuis sa deuxième édition, en 1957, et l’a remporté deux fois : en 1966 et en 2014.
L'Autriche aurait dû participer à la première édition du concours, en 1956. Mais la télévision publique autrichienne ne put respecter la date limite d’inscription et dut s’abstenir. Elle diffusa cependant la finale et fit ses débuts, l’année suivante.
Le pays participe donc depuis 1957, mais s’est retiré à de nombreuses reprises.
En 1969, par mesure de protestation, car le concours était organisé cette année-là par l’Espagne, alors une dictature sous la coupe du général Franco.
En 1970, par mécontentement du résultat de l'édition 1969 et du système de vote alors en usage.
Entre 1973 et 1975, pour des raisons non précisées. En 1998 et 2001, par relégation, à la suite des résultats obtenus l’année précédente.
En 2006, puis entre 2008 et 2010, à nouveau par mécontentement du résultat des éditions précédentes et du système de vote alors en usage6.
Depuis l'instauration des demi-finales, en 2004, l’Autriche a participé à cinq finales du concours : en 2004, 2011, 2014, 2015 et 2016.

Azerbaïdjan - Azebaijan
L'Azerbaïdjan participe donc depuis 2008, sans avoir manqué d'édition.
Le pays n'a jamais manqué sa qualification pour la finale.
L'Azerbaïdjan a remporté le concours à une reprise, en 2011, avec la chanson Running Scared, interprétée par Ell & Nikki. La sélection nationale azerbaïdjanaise s'était conclue de façon surprenante.
Le jury n'était pas parvenu à trancher entre deux finalistes : Eldar Qasımov et Nigar Camal. Il fut donc décidé de les envoyer tous les deux au concours, sous la forme d'un duo : Ell & Nikki.
Le pays a en outre remporté une demi-finale, en 2013. Il a également terminé à quatre reprises à la deuxième place : en finale, en 2013 ; en demi-finale, en 2009, en 2010 et 2011.
Il a terminé à une reprise à la troisième place (en finale en 2009), mais n'a jamais terminé à la dernière place, ni obtenu de nul point.
Les présentateurs de la soirée furent Leyla Aliyeva, Eldar Qasımov et Nargiz Birk-Petersen.
The country has never missed qualifying for the final.Azerbaijan won the contest to a recovery in 2011 with the song Running Scared, performed by Ell & Nikki. The Azerbaijani national selection had ended surprisingly.The jury was unable to decide between two finalists: Eldar Qasimov and Nigar Camal. It was therefore decided to send them both to the competition, as a duo Ell & Nikki.
The country also won a semi-final in 2013. La Bulgarie décida ces deux années de se retirer pour des motifs financiers.
La Bulgarie n’a jusqu’à présent participé qu’à 2 finales du concours, en 2007 et en 2016.

Bosnie Herzégovine - Bosnia Herzegovina
Depuis 1993, la Bosnie-Herzégovine a manqué cinq éditions du concours : en 1998, 2000, 2013, 2014 et 2015.
En 1998 et en 2000, le pays fut relégué, à la suite des résultats obtenus l’année précédente.
En 2013, le pays se retira pour des raisons financières et n'est depuis pas revenu au Concours.
Depuis l'instauration des demi-finales, en 2004, la Bosnie-Herzégovine n’a manqué aucune finale du concours, parvenant à se qualifier à chaque fois.
Bosnia and Herzegovina participates in the Eurovision Song Contest since its thirty-eighth edition in 1993 and has never won.
Since 1993, BiH has missed five editions of the competition: in 1998, 2000, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
In 1998 and 2000 the country was relegated, following the results obtained the previous year.
In 2013, the country withdrew for financial reasons and is not returned from the Contest.
Since the introduction of semifinals in 2004, BiH missed no final contest, managing to qualify each time.

Chypre - Cyprus
Le pays participe donc depuis 1981 et a manqué trois éditions : en 1988, 2001 et 2014.
En 1988, Chypre avait choisi pour la représenter, la chanson Thimame, écrite et composée par John Vickers et Aristos Moskovakis, et interprétée par Yiannis Demetriou.
Mais, quelques semaines avant le concours, il apparut que cette chanson était le réarrangement d’un morceau ayant déjà concouru à la finale nationale chypriote, en 1984, et qui avait alors terminé troisième.
Thimame fut alors disqualifiée par la télévision publique chypriote et Chypre, obligée de se retirer à la dernière minute.
En 2001, le pays fut relégué, suite aux résultats obtenus l’année précédente.
En 2014, le pays décida de se retirer pour des raisons financières.
Depuis l'instauration des demi-finales, en 2004, Chypre a participé à 6 finales du concours : en 2004, 2005, 2010, 2012 et 2015, 2016.
Cyprus participates in the Eurovision Song Contest since its twenty-sixth edition in 1981 and has never won.
The country therefore participates since 1981 and missed three editions: in 1988, 2001 and 2014.
In 1988, Cyprus had chosen to represent the Thimame song, written and composed by John Vickers and Aristos Moskovakis, and performed by Yiannis Demetriou.
But a few weeks before the competition, it became clear that this song was rearranging a song has already contributed to the Cypriot national final in 1984 and was then third.
Thimame was then disqualified by the Cypriot public television and Cyprus forced to withdraw at the last minute.

Depuis 1993, la Croatie a manqué deux éditions du concours, en 2014 et en 2015. Le pays décida de se retirer pour des raisons financières.

Danemark - Denmark - Danmark
Le Danemark aurait dû participer à la première édition du concours, en 1956. Mais la télévision publique danoise ne put respecter la date limite d’inscription et dut s’abstenir. Elle diffusa cependant la finale et fit ses débuts, l’année suivante.
En 1994, 1998 et 2003, par relégation, à la suite des résultats obtenus l’année précédente.
Enfin, en 1996, car cette année-là, l'UER instaura une épreuve de présélection, au terme de laquelle le Danemark fut éliminé.
Denmark participates in the Eurovision Song Contest since its second edition in 1957 and won three times in 1963, 2000 and 2013.
The country therefore participates since 1957, but withdrew many times. Between 1967 and 1977, as officials of the Danish public television had estimated that their budget could be invested in programs more in tune with the musical realities of the time.

Finlande - Finland

En 1970, la Finlande décida de s'abstenir, mécontente du résultat de l'édition 1969 et du système de vote en usage. En 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001 et 2003, le pays fut relégué, suite aux résultats obtenus l’année précédente .
Depuis l'instauration des demi-finales, en 2004, la Finlande a manqué 6 finales du concours : en 2004, 2005, 2010, 2012 et 2015,2016.

France
La France fait partie des cinq plus importants contributeurs financiers de l'UER, avec l’Allemagne, l’Espagne, l’Italie et le Royaume-Uni.
Ensemble, ils constituent le groupe dit des « Big Five ». Depuis l'édition 1999 du concours, ceux-ci ont la garantie d’une place automatique en finale, indépendamment de leur résultat, l'année précédente.
Le pays participe donc depuis 1956 et n'a manqué que deux éditions du concours : en 1974 et en 1982.
En 1974, l'ORTF avait sélectionné la chanson La Vie à 25 Ans, interprétée par Dani, pour la représenter. Cependant, le décès inopiné du président Georges Pompidou, le mardi 2 avril 1974, entraîna le retrait du pays. En effet, les obsèques du président avaient lieu le jour même de la finale, le samedi 6 avril 1974. Pour les mêmes raisons, Anne-Marie David, la gagnante de l'année précédente, ne put se déplacer à Brighton pour remettre la médaille du grand prix. Le concours fut finalement diffusé en différé, une semaine plus tard, le samedi 13 avril 1974, avec le commentaire de Pierre Tchernia.
Comme il prit sa décision en octobre, juste avant la date officielle d’enregistrement des candidatures, les autres chaînes publiques françaises ne purent s’organiser et trouver une alternative. Il n’y eut finalement aucune retransmission télévisée du concours en France.
Ce fut la seconde et dernière fois que le pays manqua une édition de l’Eurovision.
Seule l’Allemagne a participé plus souvent au concours, n’ayant manqué qu’une seule édition, en 1996. Et seul le Royaume-Uni a participé aussi souvent, n’ayant manqué également que deux éditions, en 1956 et en 1958.

In 1974, ORTF had selected the song 25 Years to Life, played by Dani, to represent it. However, the sudden death of President Georges Pompidou, Tuesday, April 2, 1974, led to the withdrawal of the country.
Indeed, the funeral of President took place on the day of the final, Saturday, 6 April 1974. For the same reasons, Anne Marie David, the winner of the previous year, could not move to hand the medal Brighton Grand Prize. The contest was eventually broadcast later, a week later, Saturday, April 13, 1974, with the commentary of Pierre Tchernia.
In 1982, the new director of the varieties of TF1, Pierre Bouteiller, found that the contest was only a "monument to stupidity", whose interest had been dispelled by the "lack of talent and poor songs. "
He decided the French withdrawal.As he made his decision in October, just before the official date of registration of candidates, the other French public broadcasters were unable to organize and find an alternative. There was finally no television coverage of the competition in France.This was the second and last time that the country missed an edition of Eurovision.
Only Germany has often participated in the competition, having missed only one edition in 1996.
And only the United Kingdom participated as often, having also missed two editions, in 1956 and 1958.

Géorgie - Georgia
Le pays participe donc depuis 2007 et n’a manqué qu’une seule édition du concours, en 2009.
Suite au conflit armé d'août 2008 qui l'opposa à la Russie, pays hôte de cette édition du concours, la Géorgie décida de se retirer.
Le pays revint cependant sur sa décision en décembre 2008, s'inscrivit auprès de l’UER et fut versé dans la première demi-finale2. Au terme d’une sélection nationale ouverte, la chanson retenue fut We Don't Wanna Put In (Nous ne voulons pas le prendre en compte), interprétée par le groupe Stefane & 3G.
Elle suscita immédiatement la controverse et un vaste mouvement de protestation en Russie. Son titre était en effet à double entente : il pouvait aussi se comprendre comme We Don't Wanna Putin (Nous ne voulons pas de Poutine) et donc comme une attaque personnelle à l’encontre du président russe.
Après qu'elle lui eut été soumise, le Groupe de Référence de l’UER refusa le morceau. Le Groupe basa sa décision sur le paragraphe 9 de l'article 4 du règlement du concours, qui stipulait qu'aucune allusion politique ne pouvait être faite dans les paroles d'une chanson.
Le Groupe donna le choix à la Géorgie : ou bien modifier le titre et le passage concerné, ou bien choisir une autre chanson.
La télévision publique géorgienne refusa toute modification et décida de se retirer du concours, invoquant une mesure censoriale et une atteinte à la liberté d'expression. Par la suite, le groupe Stefane & 3G admit que la chanson comportait bien un message politique et que leur objectif était de ridiculiser Vladimir Poutine.
La Géorgie a manqué sa qualification pour la finale du concours à deux reprises : en 2012 et en 2014.
La Géorgie participe au Concours Eurovision de la chanson, DEPUIS SA Cinquante-Deuxième édition, en 2007, et ne l'a encore jamais remporté.Le pays participe Fait DEPUIS 2007 et n'à manqué Qu'une Seule Edition du concours, en 20091. Suite au conflit armé d'août 2008 Qui l'opposa à la Russie, paie hôte de this édition du concours, la Géorgie décida de Retirer soi. Le Groupe donna le choix à la Géorgie: ou bien le modificateur titre et le passage Concerne, ous Bien choisir Une Autre chanson3. La télévision publique géorgienne refusa Toute modification et décida de se retirer Les concours du, invoquant juin censoriale mesure et juin Atteinte à la liberté d'expression. Par la suite, le groupe Stefane & 3G admettent Que la chanson comportait bien un message politique et non au Québec Leur Objectif Était de ridiculiser Vladimir Poutine4.

Grèce - Greece
Le pays participe donc depuis 1974 et a manqué six éditions du concours : en 1975, 1982, 1984, 1986, 1999 et 20001.
En 1975, la Grèce se retira par mesure de protestation envers la première participation de la Turquie et surtout, envers l'invasion de l'île de Chypre par l'armée turque.

Le pays diffusa cependant le concours et revint l'année suivante.
En 1970, le pays décida de s'abstenir, mécontent du résultat de l'édition 1969 et du système de vote en usage.
Enfin, en 1976, une vive polémique éclata dans l'opinion publique suédoise sur la participation du pays à l'Eurovision. Il y eut plusieurs manifestations d'opposition au concours, jugé trop commercial.
De plus, la télévision publique suédoise estima n'avoir plus les moyens d'organiser une nouvelle édition, en cas de victoire du pays. La Suède se retira alors.

En 1976 et 1977, la Turquie se retira par mesure de protestation envers la participation de la Grèce.
En 1979, le pays avait sélectionné pour la représenter, la chanson Seviyorum, interprétée par Maria Rita Epik et le groupe 21.Peron. Dans le cadre de la crise pétrolière et des tensions internationales, la Turquie subit les pressions des pays voisins d’Israël et finit par se retirer.
En 2013, la télévision publique turque décida de se retirer, mécontente des changements apportés durant les dernières années au règlement du concours.
Il fut annoncé le 6 février 2015 que le pays reviendrait pour le Concours Eurovision de la chanson 2016.

Yougoslavie
Le pays a remporté la victoire à une reprise, en 1989.
Le pays a donc participé durant trente-et-un ans, de 1961 à 1992.
Durant cette période, la Yougoslavie s'est retirée du concours à plusieurs reprises.
Tout d'abord, entre 1977 et 1980, suite à une série de mauvais résultats aux éditions précédentes.
Ensuite, en 1985, le concours tombant le jour anniversaire du décès du maréchal Tito.
En 1992, le pays concourut pour la dernière fois, alors que la Slovénie, la Croatie et la Macédoine avaient déjà fait sécession et que les guerres conséquentes étaient en cours. En 1993, la Yougoslavie fut exclue de l'UER et se retira définitivement.
