Les dates officielles :10 et au 12 mai 2016 pour les deux demi-finales et 14 mai 2016 pour la finale.
C'est la sixième fois que la Suède organise le Concours.
Le slogan de cette édition est Come together (en français réunissez-vous ou venez ensemble).
Cette édition est remportée par la chanson 1944, interprétée par la chanteuse ukrainienne Jamala, avec un total de 534 points. C'est ainsi la deuxième victoire du pays après 2004.
En deuxième position vient l'Australie avec 511 points.
Le podium est complété par la Russie qui obtient 491 points. L'Ukraine n'a remporté ni le vote des jurys, ni le télévote ; l'Australie ayant remporté le premier avec 320 points et la Russie le second avec 361 points.
Viennent ensuite la Bulgarie en 4e position avec 307 points, obtenant ainsi son meilleur résultat ; et la Suède, pays hôte avec 261 points.
Le Top 10 est complété par la France, l'Arménie, la Pologne, la Lituanie et la Belgique.
Il s'agit cette année de la France, arrivée 6e.
C'est le premier Top 10 du pays depuis 2009.
L'Italie se classe en 16e place.
Quant aux autres pays du Big 5, tous arrivent en fin de classement : 22e place pour l'Espagne, 24e pour le Royaume-Uni et 26e place pour l'Allemagne.
Cette dernière arrive donc dernière une deuxième année d'affilée, après 2015.
Parmi eux, l'Ukraine, revient après un an d'absence, la Bulgarie et la Croatie reviennent après deux ans d'absence, et la Bosnie-Herzégovine revient, quant à elle, après trois ans d'absence, et après de nombreuses hésitations à cause de problèmes pour rassembler les fonds nécessaires à une participation. En effet, après avoir déposé une inscription préliminaire le 15 septembre, le pays l'avait retiré par manque de moyens.
Cependant, un délai supplémentaire de la part de l'UER leur a permis de réunir les fonds et de participer au Concours.
Quant à l'Australie, invitée exceptionnelle pour la célébration du 60e Concours Eurovision, il avait été annoncé qu'elle ne pourrait participer à nouveau que si elle venait à gagner le Concours.
Sa participation était donc à caractère exceptionnel et devait entraîner un retrait pour 2016, le pays n'ayant pas gagné. Cependant, le 17 novembre 2015, l'UER a confirmé une nouvelle participation de l'Australie pour 2016, après un vote unanime du groupe de référence du Concours l'autorisant à participer à nouveau.
En revanche, le pays devra cette fois concourir dans une des demi-finales. De plus, aucune décision n'a été prise sur la possible participation permanente de l'île au Concours.
Le 22 avril 2016, l'UER annonce l'exclusion de la télévision roumaine Televiziunea Română (TVR) de ses services, suite au non-paiement d'une dette de 16 millions de francs suisses. Cette décision déclenche de fait la disqualification du participant roumain, Ovidiu Anton.
C'est la toute première fois en soixante-et-une éditions qu'un pays est officiellement exclu du concours par l'UER pour des motifs financiers.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2016 was the 61st edition of the contest and takes place in Sweden, following the victory of Måns Zelmerlöw the 2015 Contest with the song « Heroes».
The official dates: 10 and 12 May 2016 for the two semifinals and 14 May 2016 for the final.
This is the sixth time that Sweden is organizing the contest.

As for the rest of the Big 5, all reaching the end of ranking: 22nd place in Spain, 24th in the UK and 26th place for Germany.
The latter thus comes last a second consecutive year after 2015.
The official list was unveiled on 26 November 2015. It announced the participation of forty-three countries14. The exclusion of Romania April 22, 2016, however the number is down to forty-two.
Among them, the Ukraine, returns after a year's absence, Bulgaria and Croatia come back after two years of absence, and Bosnia and Herzegovina back, meanwhile, after three years of absence, and after many hesitations because of problems in raising funds for participation. Indeed, after having filed a preliminary registration on 15 September, the country had withdrawn for lack of means. However, additional time from the EBU has allowed them to raise funds and participate in the Contest.
However, on 17 November 2015, the EBU has reconfirmed Australia's participation for 2016, after a unanimous vote of the reference group of the contest allowing to participate again.
However, this time the country will compete in a semifinal. In addition, no decision has been made about the possible permanent participation of the island in Concours.
April 22, 2016, the EBU announced the exclusion of Romanian television Televiziunea Română (TVR) for his services, following the non-payment of a debt of 16 million Swiss francs. This decision triggers is the disqualification of the participant Romanian Ovidiu Anton.
This is the first time in sixty-one editions that a country is formally disqualified by the EBU for financial reasons.
