Bien que géographiquement ce pays ne soit pas en Europe, Israël se trouve dans la zone européenne de radiodiffusion et peut ainsi participer à l'Eurovision Song Contest.
Israël est membre de l'UER, et fait sa première apparition au Concours en 1973.
Israël a participé au concours 33 fois, et a remporté 3 fois:
1978: Izar Cohen et Alpha-Beta « A-BA-NI-BI »
1979: Milk and Honey « Hallelujah »
1998: Dana International « Diva ». La Seule fois dans l'histoire du Concours ou nous avons vu un artiste changer de tenue avant de venir réinterpréter sa chanson.

Israël a accueilli le concours de deux fois, en 1979 et 1999.
Après nous avoir inondé de chansons d’espoir relevées et entraînantes et de groupes colorés (méthode qui fonctionnait bien dans les années 70/80), Israël a du évolué et nous a présenté des chansons de style très différent au cours des années suivantes.
1987: En raison de la nature satirique du duo Datner&Kushnir, le ministre israélien de la culture menace de démissionner si la chanson n’est pas retirée de l’Eurovision.
La chanson « Shir Habatlanim » sera présenté et le ministre ne démissionnera pas.
1986
1998: Israël représenté par un transexuel à l’Eurovision suscite la colère de la communauté religieuse.
2000: La chanson disco de Ping-Pong n’est pas bien reçu, malgré les paroles largement optimistes sur la paix dans le monde et le message de réconciliation en Asie occidentale, le fait de brandir des drapeaux syrien à la fin de leur chanson a été très mal perçu par les israéliens.
2009: Pour la 1ére fois un citoyen arabe israélien représenté son pays en duo avec un juif-israélien.
Mira Awad & Noa avec leur duo « There must be annoter way » on obtenu la 16éme place en finale.
2011: Malgré sa popularité auprès de la communauté « Gay » et sa victoire en 1998, Dana International sera éliminée en demi-finale avec sa chanson « Ding »Dong ».

1987: Due to the nature of the satirical duo DATN & Kushnir, the Israeli minister of culture threatens to resign if the song is not removed from the Eurovision. The song "Shir Habatlanim" will be presented and the Minister will not resign.
1998: Israel represented by a transsexual to the Eurovision arouses the wrath of the religious community.

2000: The Disco Song Ping-Pong is not well received, despite the optimistic words largely on world peace and the message of reconciliation in West Asia, the act of waving Syrian flags at the end of their song been very badly perceived by the Israelis

2011: Despite its popularity with the community "Gay" and his victory in 1998, Dana International will be eliminated in the semifinals with his song "Ding" Dong ".
