Le concours Eurovision de la chanson 1959 fut la quatrième édition du concours. Il se déroula le mercredi 11 mars 1959, à Cannes, en France. 
Il fut remporté par les Pays-Bas, avec la chanson Een Beetje, interprétée par Teddy Scholten. Le Royaume-Uni termina deuxième et la France, pays hôte, troisième.

Ayant remporté l’édition 1958, la France fut le pays hôte de l’édition 1959.
Une nouvelle règle fut introduite. Il fut désormais interdit à des auteurs et des compositeurs professionnels de faire partie des jurys nationaux.

Onze pays participèrent au quatrième concours.
Le Royaume-Uni fit son retour, après avoir manqué l’édition 1958. Depuis, le pays détient le record du plus grand nombre de participations consécutives.
Le Luxembourg s’abstint de concourir mais diffusa pourtant le concours. 
Monaco fit ses débuts mais termina à la dernière place.

Le concours eut lieu au Palais des Festivals de Cannes, là où se tenait également le Festival du Film à l’époque. Le bâtiment était situé sur la Promenade de la Croisette. Il a été détruit depuis.
La scène était composée de trois plateaux tournants. Chaque plateau comportait quatre arrière-plans différents, symbolisant chaque pays participant. Pour la première fois, l'orchestre, dirigé par Frank Pourcel, prit place non pas sur la scène, à côté des artistes, mais en contre-bas, au pied d'un escalier. Le tableau de vote, quant à lui, fut placé à droite de la scène.
Le programme dura près d'une heure et treize minutes.
Pour la première et unique fois de l’histoire du concours, les chansons ayant terminé en deuxième et troisième position furent rejouées à l’issue du vote, avant la reprise traditionnelle de la chanson gagnante.

Onze chansons concoururent pour la victoire.
Pour la première fois, des participants esquissèrent quelques pas de danse durant leur prestation, en l'occurrence Birthe Wilke et les sœurs Kessler. Ces dernières furent également les premières jumelles à participer au concours.
Les représentants anglais, Pearl Carr et Teddy Johnson, étaient mari et femme à la ville, comme sur scène. Ils furent les seuls à recourir à un accessoire : un petit oiseau de celluloïd, illustrant le thème de leur chanson.

The Eurovision Song Contest 1959 was the fourth edition of the competition . It took place Wednesday, March 11, 1959 in Cannes , France.
It was won by the Netherlands , with the song Een Beetje , played by Teddy Scholten . The United Kingdom and France finished second , host third.

Having won the 1958 edition, France was the host country of the 1959 edition .
A new rule was introduced. He was now forbidden to authors and professionals to be part of the national juries composers.

Eleven countries participated in the fourth contest.
The United Kingdom made his return after missing the 1958 edition . Since then, the country holds the record for the most number of consecutive appearances .
Luxembourg abstained compete yet broadcasted the contest.
Monaco made his debut but finished in last place.

The competition took place at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, where also stood Film Festival at the time. The building was located on the Promenade de la Croisette. It has since been destroyed .
The scene consisted of three turntables . Each tray contained four different backgrounds , symbolizing each participating country. For the first time , the orchestra , led by Frank Pourcel sat not on the stage beside artists , but down against the foot of a staircase. The panel vote , meanwhile , was placed to the right of the scene.
The program lasted about an hour and thirteen minutes.
For the first and only time in the history of the contest , the songs have finished in second and third position were replayed after the vote, before the traditional recovery of the winning song .

Eleven songs competed for the win.
For the first time , participants sketched some dance during their performance , namely Birthe Wilke and sisters Kessler. The latter also were the first twins to participate in the contest.
English representatives , Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson, were husband and wife in the city, and on stage. They were the only ones to use an accessory : a little bird celluloid , depicting the theme of their song .
