Le concours Eurovision de la chanson 1958 fut la troisième édition du concours. Il se déroula le mercredi 12 mars 1958, à Hilversum, aux Pays-Bas. Il fut remporté par la France, avec la chanson Dors, Mon Amour, interprétée par André Claveau. La Suisse termina deuxième et l'Italie, troisième.

Cette année-là, fut instaurée la règle voulant que le pays victorieux organise le concours l'année suivante. Les Pays-Bas, qui avaient remporté l'édition 1957, furent donc le pays hôte.

Dix pays participèrent au troisième concours. La Suède fit ses débuts.
Le Royaume-Uni ne participa pas, mais diffusa pourtant le concours. Ce fut la dernière fois que le pays s'abstint de concourir. Il revint en 1959 et détient toujours le record du plus grand nombre de participations consécutives.

La présentatrice de la soirée fut Hannie Lips. 
Elle n'apparut sur scène qu'après que toutes les chansons eurent été jouées. Elle s'exprima en néerlandais, en anglais et en français.

Pour la toute première fois, les noms des pays, des chansons et des artistes furent indiqués à l'écran, par surimpression sur le décor.
Lys Assia, la gagnante de l'édition 1956, fut la première participante de l'histoire du concours à interpréter une chanson recourant à deux langues : l'allemand et l'italien.

Dix chansons concoururent pour la victoire.

Avec l'édition 1956, l'édition 1958 fut la seule de l'histoire du concours à ne comporter aucune chanson en anglais.
Suite à un problème technique, la chanson italienne ne fut pas diffusée convenablement dans tous les pays. Domenico Modugno dut remonter sur scène pour la rechanter, après que tous les autres concurrents soient passés. Sa chanson, plus connue sous le nom de Volare, rencontra par la suite un très grand succès commercial. Elle atteignit la première place du Billboard américain (qu'elle occupa cinq semaines), décrocha deux Grammy Awards (chanson et enregistrement de l'année) et fut reprise par d'innombrables artistes de par le monde (dont Dean Martin et David Bowie).

Lors de l'émission spéciale Congratulations, elle fut votée deuxième meilleure chanson jamais présentée au concours, derrière Waterloo d'ABBA.
Il n'y eut jamais d'enregistrement studio de la première participation suédoise au concours. La SVT et la chanteuse, Alice Babs, insatisfaits des paroles de la chanson, la firent réécrire. Ils n'en demandèrent cependant pas l'autorisation à l'auteur original, Åke Gerhard. Par conséquent, ce dernier fit interdire tout enregistrement ultérieur du morceau.

Pour sa prestation, Alice Babs revêtit le costume national suédois.
La représentante danoise, Raquel Rastenni, décida d'illustrer le thème de sa chanson Jeg rev et blad ud af min dagbog (J'ai arraché une page de mon journal), en arrachant justement une page d'un cahier posé sur ses genoux.

La représentante allemande, Margot Hielscher, eut recourt elle aussi à des accessoires, ainsi qu'à un costume. Elle chaussa une couronne et une écharpe de Miss Jukebox. Durant sa prestation, elle montra trois disques au public, leur demandant lesquels il souhaitait entendre.

The Eurovision Song Contest 1958 was the third edition of the competition. 
It took place Wednesday, March 12, 1958, in Hilversum, the Netherlands. 
It was won by France with the song Sleep, My Love, performed by André Claveau. Switzerland finished second and Italy third.That year was the established rule that the victors organizing the competition the following year. 
The Netherlands, who won the 1957 edition, was therefore the host country.Ten countries participated in the third contest.
Sweden made its debut.The United Kingdom does not take part, yet broadcasted the contest. 
That was the last time the country refrained from competing. 
He returned in 1959 and still holds the record for the most number of consecutive appearances.The presenter of the evening was Hannie Lips. 
She appeared on stage after all the songs had been played. 
She spoke in Dutch, English and French.For the first time, the names of countries, songs and artists were shown in the display, superimposed on the décor.Lys Assia, the winner of the 1956 edition was the first participant in the history of the contest to perform a song using two languages: German and Italian.


Ten songs competed for the win.

With the 1956 edition, the 1958 edition was the only one in the history of the competition to not include any song in English .
Due to a technical problem , the Italian song was not released properly in all countries.
Domenico Modugno had to go on stage to sing it after all other competitors have passed. His song , most known as Volare , subsequently met a great commercial success. It reached the top spot of the U.S. Billboard ( she held five weeks ) , picked up two Grammy Awards ( song and record of the year) and was taken over by countless artists around the world (including Dean Martin and David Bowie ) .

At the special show Congratulations , she was voted the second best song ever made in the contest, behind Waterloo ABBA .
It was never recording studio of the first Swedish entry. SVT and singer Alice Babs, dissatisfied with lyrics of the song , made her rewrite . They do however not asked permission from the original author , Åke Gerhard . Therefore , it forbade any subsequent recording of the song.

For his performance, Alice Babs clothed Swedish national costume.

The Danish representative , Raquel Rastenni , decided to illustrate the theme of the song Jeg rev and blad ud af min dagbog( I tore a page from my journal ) , snatching just one page of a notebook on his lap .
The German representative , Margot Hielscher , had recourse also to accessories , as well as a costume. She buckled a crown and a sash of Miss Jukebox . During her performance , she showed three discs to the public, asking them where they wanted to hear .
