Le concours Eurovision de la chanson 1987 fut la trente-deuxième édition du concours. Il se déroula le samedi 9 mai 1987, à Bruxelles, en Belgique. Il fut remporté par l'Irlande, avec la chanson Hold Me Now, interprétée par Johnny Logan. L'Allemagne termina deuxième et l'Italie, troisième.

La Belgique, qui avait remporté l'édition 1986, se chargea de l’organisation de l’édition 1987.
À l'origine, le concours devait être organisé conjointement par les deux télédiffuseurs publics belges : la RTBF francophone et la BRT néerlandophone. L'objectif était de donner de la Belgique, l'image d'un pays uni. Mais rapidement, des dissensions apparurent entre les deux télédiffuseurs, notamment sur le lieu, les présentateurs ou encore l'entracte. Au final, la BRT se retira du projet et la RTBF décida d'assumer seule l'organisation du concours. Le budget nécessaire fut tellement important qu'une nouvelle loi dut être adoptée, permettant le recours à la publicité pour financer les chaînes publiques belges. Ce fut la première fois que des sponsors aidèrent à la réalisation du concours et apparurent à l'écran.

Vingt-deux pays participèrent au trente-deuxième concours, un nouveau record.
L'Italie et la Grèce firent leur retour. Il n'y eut aucun désistement, ni aucun début.
Pour la toute première fois, l'UER fixa un nombre maximal de participants au concours : vingt-deux. Cela, afin de limiter à trois heures la durée de retransmission.

Vingt-deux chansons concoururent pour la victoire.
La chanson norvégienne avait été composée par Rolf Løvland et son texte, écrit par Hanne Krogh. Tous deux avaient remporté le concours, l'année précédente, avec La det swinge. Mitt liv termina finalement neuvième.
Suite aux dissensions entre les télédiffuseurs publics belges et au retrait de la BRT, l'on crût un temps que la Belgique ne pourrait présenter de candidat cette année-là. En effet, c'était au tour de la BRT de sélectionner un interprète et une chanson. Mais le télédiffuseur néerlandophone organisa bien une finale, qui fut remportée par Liliane Saint-Pierre.

La chanson italienne, Gente di Mare, fut l'autre grande réussite commerciale du concours. Son compositeur et interprète, Umberto Tozzi, avait déjà remporté de nombreux succès, notamment avec Gloria en 1983.
Le représentant luxembourgeois n'était autre que Plastic Bertrand, qui avait connu un succès planétaire en 1977 avec Ça plane pour moi.
Le représentant irlandais, Johnny Logan, avait déjà remporté la victoire au concours, en 1980. La suite de sa carrière avait été moins réussie. À cause de nombreux problèmes juridiques liés à son contrat et des procès à répétition, il avait perdu tous les gains qu'il avait pu gagner. Cette seconde participation en tant qu'artiste était donc nécessaire pour lui assurer un nouveau départ.

Le ministre de la culture israélien n'apprécia que fort peu la chanson sélectionnée cette année-là pour représenter son pays. Il s'agissait d'un morceau parodique, moquant l'absurdité de la vie, interprété par le duo satirique Datner & Kushnir. Le ministre menaça publiquement de démissionner, si la chanson était présentée à Bruxelles. Il ne tint cependant pas parole et Israël termina huitième.
Le titre initial de la chanson suédoise était : « Fyra Bugg och en Coca-Cola » (« Quatre chewing-gums et un Coca-Cola »). Or le règlement du concours, dans son article 1.2.2., paragraphe g, interdit tout message commercial dans les chansons en lice et durant les prestations. Afin que la Suède ne soit pas disqualifiée, Christer Lundh, l'auteur de la chanson, en modifia le titre et les paroles, qui devinrent : « Boogaloo ».

The Eurovision Song Contest 1987 was the thirty-second edition of the competition . It took place Saturday, May 9, 1987 in Brussels , Belgium. It was won by Ireland with the song Hold Me Now , sung by Johnny Logan. Germany finished second and Italy third.

Belgium, who won the 1986 edition , undertook the organization of the 1987 edition .
Initially , the competition to be organized jointly by the two Belgian public broadcaster : the French and the Dutch RTBF BRT . The aim was to give Belgium, the image of a united country. But soon , dissension arose between the two broadcasters , including the place, the presenters or the intermission. Ultimately withdrew from the BRT project and RTBF decided to take only the organization of the competition . The necessary budget was so important that a new law had been adopted , allowing the use of advertising to fund the Belgian public channels. This was the first time that sponsors helped to complete the contest and appeared on the screen.

Twenty-two countries participated in the thirty- second competition , a new record.
Italy and Greece made their return. There was no withdrawal, and no beginning.
For the first time , the EBU a fixed maximum number of contestants : Twenty Two. This to limit to three hours duration of retransmission.

Twenty- two songs competed for the win.
The Norwegian song was composed by Rolf Løvland and text written by Hanne Krogh . Both had won the competition the previous year , with the det swing . Mitt liv eventually finished ninth . 
Following disagreements between the Belgian public broadcaster and the withdrawal of the BRT , is believed to be that Belgium could not field a candidate this year. Indeed, it was the turn of the BRT select a performer and a song. But the Dutch broadcaster well organized final , which was won by Liliane Saint -Pierre .

The Italian song Gente di Mare , was another great commercial success in the competition. His songwriter , Umberto Tozzi had many successes , notably with Gloria in 1983.
Luxembourg's representative was none other than Plastic Bertrand , who had been a worldwide success in 1977 with That planes for me .
The Irish representative, Johnny Logan, had already won the victory in the contest in 1980. Following his career was less successful . Because many legal issues related to the contract and repeated trials , he lost all the gains that had been won. This second participation as an artist was therefore necessary to guarantee a fresh start.

The Israeli Minister of Culture did not appreciate that little song selected this year to represent his country . It was a parody song mocking the absurdity of life, interpreted by the satirical duo Datner & Kushnir . The Minister publicly threatened to resign if the song was presented in Brussels . It does not , however, kept his word and Israel finished eighth .
The original title of the Swedish song was " Fyra Bugg och in Coca -Cola " (" Four chewing gum and Coca -Cola "). But the contest rules , in its Article 1.2.2 . , Paragraph g, prohibits any commercial message in the songs and compete for benefits . So that Sweden is not disqualified , Christer Lundh , the author of the song, changed the title and lyrics , which became " Boogaloo ".
